Treat Yo’ Self: A kid friendly itinerary for fun and relaxation

Everyone deserves a day of indulgence. For many of us though, it is extra hard to find the time when you have a kid in tow. Plus, it’s easy to get stuck in a cycle of errands/dinner/bedtime. That’s why we have put together the perfect way to treat yourself (and your offspring), without the need for childcare. Don’t forget to wear a mask, social distance, and respect the establishment’s rules about Covid-19.

First Stop: If you haven’t stopped into Missoula’s favorite (and only) plant-based donut shop, then you are in for a treat at Veera Donuts. Don’t let the lack of dairy and meat fool you, these donuts are amazing, fresh, and huge. The donut selection varies each day, but even if donuts aren’t your thing (yeah right), they also have vegan “Mac n’ Cheez,” a breakfast sandwich and more!

Then: Since you are already on the hip strip, wander one block down to do a little window shopping. Don’t worry, even kids won’t mind wandering through a store or two when you take them into Betty’s Divine, and introduce them to Jethro, the larger than life orange cat who resides in the store. We also love shopping fair trade at the Jeanette Rankin Peace Center, and awesome shop next door, Upcycled. Across the street, Hazel & Fawn has fun finds for babies and kids.

Still Not Tired? Head to Create Art Bar for some crafting and cocktails (or mocktails for your compatriot). You can select from a menu of crafts, or simply grab one of the coloring books and supplies and enjoy.

Last But Not Least: Time for pedicures. Think you can’t get a pedicure with your child tugging on your coat sleeve? Think again. In lieu of a full blown pedicure for $30+ dollars, most of the nail salons will let them soak their feet and do a polish change for just $10. Because we are bad at making appointments, we appreciate walk ins and have been welcomed with open arms at Saigon Nails and Nail Trix alike. For younger kids, Nail Trix has two smaller “kid sized” pedicure chairs (one is Spider-Man, the other has fairies on it), complete with the remote control to make the seat vibrate.

Even if you can’t squeeze all of these things into a day, pick and choose even just one special activity and enjoy a special date that you and your kid will love.

How do you indulge with or without your kids? Got another idea? Drop us a note in the comments!
