Parenting Hacks with Everyday Items
Our friend Stacey recently shared these really clever videos where she explained some non traditional items that she has been known to gift or recommend to first time parents. But even if this parenthood thing isn’t your first rodeo, you’ll love how some of these everyday items can make life so much easier!
What other items would your recommend to a new parent or caregiver? Maybe some of your own household items you couldn’t live without? Let us know!
Kitchen scissors- scissors for a baby? Well, no, not FOR the baby. But as a parent, kitchen scissors or so helpful for not only opening packages, but cutting up food, noodles and more.
Tuna strainer- if you are using a breast pump, these little strainers help make cleaning and drying all the parts so much easier.
Shot glass- Although you may be ready for a drink as a new parent, small shot glasses actually make the perfect sized cup for little hands that are learning how to drink from an open cup.
Rubber ice trays- A great way to store baby food in small portions, and as kids get older, you can melt down broken crayons into a bigger rainbow crayon.
Long sleeve smocks- Ikea has the best and most affordable bibs, smocks and covers. Not only are they great for art, but also eating!
Potty chair- Although this isn’t a random parenting item, you may not have thought about keeping a spare in the car. Once you need it, you’ll be so glad you have it on hand!
Painter’s Tape- Whether it is for hanging art work or making race tracks on the floor, painter’s tape is versatile way for kids to play and redecorate with no residue and easy clean up!
Refillable Wipe Pouches- Keep them in your purse, car, etc and refill cheaply and easy with the bulk wipes…plus they don’t dry out! Baby wipes are great for cleaning up messes on the go (not just of the diaper variety!)
Lysol Wipes- While we are talking about wipes, let’s not forget about those of antibacterial kind!
Boon Drying Rack- Even once you are past bottles, these little drying racks are so handy for sippy cups, water bottles and more!
Kids Fly Safe- You do need to check with the airlines before using, but this is a great option for kids when you don’t want to lug a large carseat with you. Side note about traveling with breastmilk: ask the TSA to put on a new pair of gloves before handling your liquid gold.
Storage cubes/totes/buckets- From early on, get your kiddo a bin or designated place for their mittens, hats, and more to go right when they come in the house. Preferably near the door, if possible.
