Local Suggestions for your Giving Tuesday
Missoulians love to give back. With one of the highest rates of nonprofits per capita in the nation, it can be hard to know where to give, especially at the end of the year when many nonprofits are asking for end-of-year donations.
After the hustle and bustle of shopping for the holidays over the weekend, Giving Tuesday was set aside to focus on giving to others through volunteerism and donations. The day connects generous families and individuals with the causes they care about.
We live in a special place, our nonprofits play a significant role in the health, vibrancy, and culture of our community. This day is about holding up their mission-based work and celebrating them. Aren’t able to donate financially? Consider giving your time. Check out this article about Volunteering with Kids.
There are a number of local non-profits that support children and families. Not sure where to give? Check out these fundraisers!
CASA: Fun fact! 406 Families co-founder Charity Stubb was the CEO of CASA until her fourth child was born and she decided to shift into the role of stay-at-home mom for a while. But CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Missoula is still near and dear to her heart. The organization provides independent, trained advocates to work for the best interests of children within the judicial system who are at substantial risk or have experienced abuse or neglect. They are raising money to support volunteers who work as child advocates. Want to give to Bitterroot CASA? Their donate link is here.
Want to know another nonprofit we care about for the way they care about mothers and children? Mountain Home Montana. Mountain Home Montana provides shelter for young mothers who need a place to live, and a network of support as they create safe, stable, and nurturing homes of their own. Donate here to help this organization provide a safe place to live for young families, as well as the support and skills to create a stable home of their own.
Missoula Boxing Club: This organization uses competitive amateur boxing to connect at-risk students with academic achievement, positive mentorship, and health citizenship. Missoula Boxing Club is raising money through Giving Tuesday to enhance the Academic Center with 12 Dell Inspiron 2-in-1 computers. Donations will also go toward boxing gloves, students’ registration fee with USA Boxing, and other enhancements that aid students’ academic and athletic success.
