  • 😷YMCA (Virtual) Costume Contest: (Entries accepted now through October 24. All entries due by 11:59 p.m. on October 24.)
    Our annual Halloween costume contest is back! Submit a photo of your best Halloween costume to ymca@ymcamissoula.org by October 24. Pet photos welcome! Photos will be displayed on our Facebook page starting October 25. Voting runs October 25–31. Voting is easy—simply "Like" your favorite costume!   • 😷1:00PM Online Bug Encounters - Venezuelan Suntiger Tarantulas: The Venezuelan Suntigers will be making their Facebook Live debut this week! A male (left) and female (right) were generously donated by the Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium in New Orleans almost one year to the day. Unlike many of our other New World tarantulas, these stunners are arboreal rather than terrestrial. Tune in to learn more about these tree-dwellers.

Thursday, October 21:

  • 10:00AM MiniNaturalists with the Montana Natural History Center: Dates: Every Thursday, September – May
    Time: 10:00-11:00 am Cost: Free with cost of admission (and free for members!)
    Location: Montana Natural History Center, 120 Hickory Street
    We are currently holding this program outdoors only in our Nature Adventure Garden on the east side of the building. The miniNaturalist program encourages curiosity for the natural world through exploration and play. We sing songs, read books, play games, and develop skills with art and science tools. Each program begins with songs, movement, and stories. We then provide materials for learner directed discovery in our garden. We look for bugs and birds, color on rocks, build with branches, experiment with science tools and play with a variety of art materials. Best for ages 2-4 though any age is welcome!

  • 3:00PM You’re an Engineer at the Missoula Public Libray: Join your friends at the library when we build and create with Legos, oversized Building Blocks and our Rig-a-ma-Jig. The Rig-a-ma-Jig is a set of wooden planks with pulleys, oversized nuts and bolts, and screws. Enjoy your own free building time or join in our building challenges. Meets in the Imaginarium on Level Two. 3:00-5:00 PM

  • 3:30 - 5:30 Clay Date for Kids at the Clay Studio: For youth ages 5 and up, $30 per child, 3:30 - 5:30PM Spend an afternoon at the Clay Studio making a fun project! A chance to meet new friends and make a unique project out of clay! Our instructor will walk the group through a project, which will be fired and glazed to be returned about 3 weeks after the workshop.   • 6:30PM Unseen Missoula by the Roxy and Missoula Downtown: Enjoy a chilling exploration into Missoula’s haunted history, featuring dozens of ghostly encounters and inexplicable tales. This walking tour starts in front of The Roxy Theater and takes approximately 90 minutes. As this is a Halloween tour, its recommended to dress warm for the cool evening weather (costumes are optional but always welcome!), with comfortable walking shoes as this tour covers about two miles. Friday, October 22:

  • 2:00PM Spooky Special Kids Workshop at the Clay Studio: Ages 8-12 October 22, 2-5pm Instructor: Austin Coudriet Come join the Clay Studio for a Spooky Seasonal workshop! School is out for the day, so come make with clay! Students will make Jack-o-Shakers! Ornamental instruments that make a fabulous holiday decoration when not in use. Students can make a pumpkin that lasts forever, and carve it a fun spooky jack-o-lantern face, or style it with colorful 'painted' decoration to be for the fall season in general. This lesson teaches important clay basics, and is fantastic practice for students to build hand strength and fine motor skills, all while being playful and fun to make!   • 7:30PM Thirteenth Annual Pianissimo: Thirteenth Annual Pianissimo: The University of Montana School of Music presents the thirteenth annual Pianissimo! concerts on October 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. This year’s program is entitled, “Roll Over, Beethoven!” as he rolled over another year with his 250th birthday last year. As the program title suggests, there will also be an element of rock n’ roll in this year’s show, featuring familiar pop and rock songs that all audience members will enjoy. https://www.umt.edu/griztix/

Saturday, October 23:

  • 1:00PM Spooky Skate at Glacier Ice Rink: Join Glacier Ice Rink for our 9th annual Spooky Skate on Saturday, October 23. This "chilling" event features Halloween-themed music, a photo booth, an on-ice costume contest, and spooky lighting (evening session). We’ll have two separate sessions: one from 1 to 3 pm for families with small children, and one from 7 to 9 pm for older boys and ghouls. Admission and skate rentals are $12 per person. Each session is capped at 100 skaters, so be sure to register in advance using our online system at glaciericerink.com.

  • 1:00PM Saturday Drop Ins at MCAT: Every Saturday at MCAT in the Missoula Public Library youths 8-14 can enjoy a mix of stop animation and movie making fun. MCAT staff are available to help each kid with their unique project ideas. Props are encouraged and we can transfer all videos made to your Thumb Drive or apple devices. Space is limited to 6 kids, First Come First Serve.

  • 1:00PM - 5:00PM Costume Swap at the Zootow Arts Community Center: Help monsters of Halloweens past find a new home while finding a new look this year during ZACC’s first ever Costume Swap. The swap will be free of charge and open to the public. As people peruse assorted costumes and find their match, the ZACC asks everyone to consider donating what they can and/or what they think the costumes are worth.
