Around Town: January 6-12, 2020

Here are some events we are loving this week!

Dance Kids

Kids love to dance and what better way to encourage their rhythm by enrolling them in one of Downtown Dance Collective’s dance classes starting this week. Kids age 5-6 can enroll in the Hip Hop for Kids class from January 6- February 17 from 4:30-5:15pm. They’ll get excited about moving and learn to pump up the volume with simple and easy hip-hop dance technique. Kids age 7-8 can learn more about the techniques of Ballet from January 9-February 20 from 4:00pm-4:45pm. For registration and more information, click HERE.

Families First Learning Lab is hosting family fun at EmPower Place Monday, January 6 at 4:30pm. Stop by for family oriented learning, creativity and fun! 

Learn more about where bugs go to escape the winter! On Tuesday January 7 at 3:30pm The
Missoula Butterfly House will be hosting “Bugs & Bugsicles” at the EmPower Place.

Bring your kiddos (age birth to 5 years old) to the Zootown Arts Community Center on Tuesday, January 7 at 10am for Music Together! Children will learn informal singing, chanting, moving, listening and instrument playing during this free demo class.

Join BASE Missoula for All Abilities YOGA! On Wednesday, January 8 from 4:00pm-5:00pm. All ages and abilities are welcome and it’s free!

Looking for a great group of moms and learn more about breastfeeding? Join a community of moms and a lactation expert at Missoula Baby Bistro on Wednesday, January 8 at 11am. This group meets each Wednesday at the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center.

Have questions before you attend, contact 406-207-9181. Come pack the house and cheer on Hellgate High School’s girls basketball team on Thursday, January 9th—Froshmore at 4:00pm, JV at 5:30pm and Varsity at 7:15pm. Pack the house as the Hellgate Knights take on Helena High School.

Mini+Naturalist

Do you have a mini-naturalist in your home? Bring them to the Montana Natural History Center’s Mini Naturalist Pre-K program on Thursday, January 9th at 10am. The mini Naturalist program emphasizes observation and sensory skills through hands on activities and games. January features “Animals in Winter.” Dates are every Thursday and are FREE with admission!  

Bring your family and recharge your spirit on Shabbat with an uplifting morning of song, prayer, and a delicious Kiddush lunch on Saturday, January 11 at 10:00am at the Chabad Jewish Center.  

What’s more exciting than building Cat Castles? Bring all those leftover boxes from the holidays to the Missoula Public Library on Saturday, January 11 at 1pm and make a castle for your cat or other
small pet!

Chinese New Year

Get ready to celebrate the Chinese New Year at January Crafternoon at the Museum by making paper lanterns on Saturday January 11 at 11am. This exciting event will be taking place at at the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula.

Tap into your creative side with your kiddo.  Register for Painting with a Twist’s Swirly Turtles painting on Saturday, January 11 from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Children 13 years and older will enjoy this guided painting of colorful turtles. OR children 8 years and older can participate in a Mermaid Painting Set on Sunday, January 12 at 2pm. Register HERE.
